Purpose:
To minimize the environmental impact of our event and promote responsible consumption and waste practices, ensuring a positive legacy for the community and the planet.
Guidelines:
Venue Selection: Prioritize venues that have eco-friendly certifications, operate on renewable energy, or have waste reduction measures in place.
Transportation:
We actively encourage attendees to carpool or make use public transport to reduce carbon emissions.
Waste Management:
Provide clearly labelled recycling bins for paper, plastic, glass, and organic waste. Avoid single-use plastics. Opt for biodegradable or reusable alternatives for cutlery, plates, and cups. Minimize printed materials. Use digital platforms or apps to disseminate event information.
Food & Beverage:
Serve locally-sourced, organic, and seasonal foods. Opt for vegetarian or vegan meal options or ensure a percentage of such options are available. Donate leftover food to local shelters or compost when possible.
Previous events we have ordered in a large amount of food and we found that there was a lot left over, which was donated to local charities, so this year we have partnered with Amadeus who will be providing food for our attendees. There will be a charge for this food.
Water Conservation:
Provide water stations for attendees to refill their own bottles, reducing the need for single-use plastic bottles.
Energy Efficiency:
Make use of natural light, when possible, use LED lighting, and ensure all equipment is turned off when not in use.
Supplier & Vendor Selection:
Collaborate with suppliers and vendors who share our sustainability values and practices.
Engage Attendees:
Encourage attendees to participate in our sustainability efforts, such as recycling, reducing waste, and using sustainable transport options.
Post-Event Evaluation:
Assess the sustainability outcomes of the event to identify areas of improvement for future events.
Exhibitor Stands:
We will be providing the ability for exhibitors to either take their stand away with them or have it shipped to a destination. We encourage our exhibitors to take this up and reuse the stands where they can.
Carpet:
We are reducing the amount of single use carpet that are used for events like this so there may be a different aesthetic feel to the conference this year.
